* Install Termux as user-land Linux shell on the phone (and e.g. No speed records but no slide-show either) I know it's no benchmark, but a neat qualitative indicator. glxgears runs with ~600-700 fps on a Pixel 6. iSH as it runs native ARM64 builds of FreeCAD directly on the ARM CPU of the phone, using the Linux kernel of the Android OS. The software rendering it is still by factors faster than e.g. At least the UI is running smoothly and today's mobile CPUs are fast enough to render small to medium models. One caveat: As I don't want to root my phone there is no chance to install system level drivers and thus get GPU acceleration running - so FreeCAD (=the underlaying OpenGL mesa driver) uses software rendering. As one has the phone in the pocket most of the time anyways and having tethering on is also generally a good idea when using the iPad for internet access, this doesn't mean much overhead. But the free variant is more a demo - one cannot save anywhere, access to cloud storage (or even local storage) needs a subscription again (understandable in that case as the cloud instance generates costs on their side).Ī local variant that isn't depending on an internet connection or subscription would of course be cooler!įound another solution that is actually viable: Installing the Linux version of FreeCAD on an Android phone and controlling it from the iPad. Every window seems to open in a new tab which is a little odd but - ok. seems to work nicely on first try, they have FreeCAD 0.20 available. Or there are some cloud services that can stream to any browser. And one would have to let the PC always running, not very ecological. Works, but to do that outside the local WLAN one either needs to buy a subscription from them or build a own VPN solution. Just tried Splashtop to stream from Windows. deb file into whatever Alpine needs.Īnother option would be to run FreeCAD on either a local machine or a cloud instance and stream the UI to the iPad. Thanks! Hm, the AppImage tools seem only to be available for 64 bit Linux.
